About IB Psychology
Biological, cognitive, and sociocultural approaches to behaviour. HL includes abnormal psychology and qualitative research methods.
Our tutors are Oxbridge graduates, many of whom studied the IB themselves. They understand the specific assessment criteria, IA requirements, and exam technique needed to achieve 6s and 7s at Higher Level.
The IB offers Psychology at both Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL). The key differences are:
- Higher Level: Greater depth and breadth of content, additional assessment components, and more teaching hours. Required if this subject is central to your university application.
- Standard Level: Core content with slightly fewer topics. Still rigorous and demanding, but with less extended material than HL.
Our tutors tailor every session to the correct level, ensuring preparation is targeted and efficient.
The Internal Assessment is a significant component of your final grade. Our tutors help at every stage:
- Selecting a focused, achievable topic that meets IB criteria
- Planning the investigation, experiment, or analysis
- Structuring the write-up to maximise marks against each criterion
- Reviewing drafts before submission, with detailed feedback
Many students leave the IA too late or choose topics that are too broad. Starting early with expert guidance makes a significant difference to the final mark.
IB exams require a specific approach. Papers are set globally and follow detailed assessment criteria. Our tutors teach students how to:
- Decode mark schemes and understand what examiners reward
- Structure responses for full marks under time pressure
- Manage time across multi-section papers
- Avoid common mistakes identified in examiner reports
For students applying to UK universities, strong IB grades are essential. Psychology at Higher Level is typically required or recommended for related degree courses at Oxford, Cambridge, and other top universities.
Our tutors help connect IB preparation with university admissions: building the subject knowledge that admissions tutors look for, developing personal statements that demonstrate genuine engagement, and preparing for admissions tests and interviews.
