Who It Is For
Students We Teach
Applicants who need an IELTS score
The course you want, or the offer you hold, sets a minimum IELTS score overall, and often a minimum for each of the four parts too.
Students at English-medium schools
You may not need the test, but you want your written and spoken English to do your ideas justice in essays and interviews.
Students about to start at a UK university
You have your place and want to arrive ready for lectures, long reading lists and written work in English.
Students in Japan, Singapore, China and beyond
Lessons are online and one-to-one, at times that suit your time zone, wherever you are studying now.
What We Teach
The Test, and the English Beyond It
The IELTS score meets the English condition of your offer; strong academic English is what you use every week after that. We teach both, with lessons built around your target score, your subject and the time you have.
IELTS Academic
IELTS Academic Preparation
IELTS Academic is the version of the test UK universities ask for on most degree courses. It has four parts, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, each given a band score up to 9. Universities set a minimum overall score, and many set a minimum for each part as well.
- A starting assessment of each part against your target score
- Writing Task 1 and Task 2: planning, structure and the four marking criteria
- Speaking practice in the format of the real test, with detailed feedback
- Reading and listening strategies under real timings
Academic Writing
Writing in Academic English
Most university work in the UK is written: essays, reports and exam answers that make an argument. We teach how to plan, structure and write in clear academic English, using your own subject wherever we can.
- Building an argument and supporting it with evidence
- Paraphrasing, quoting and referencing sources properly
- Editing for clarity, with the writing always your own
Speaking
Seminars and Interviews
Oxford and Cambridge interviews, and seminars at any UK university, ask you to think aloud in English. Lessons give you regular discussion practice on real subject material until it feels natural.
- Discussing unfamiliar problems and texts out loud
- Answering follow-up questions clearly, without a script
- Mock interviews in your subject if you are applying to Oxford or Cambridge
