Oxford and Cambridge admissions for students in Singapore

Applying from Singapore means bringing together academic requirements, application timing and, for some students, National Service planning. This page gives families a clear starting point for Oxford and Cambridge, with Singapore-Cambridge A-level and IB requirements, key timing points, and the ways our online tutoring and mentoring can support preparation.

Oxford and Cambridge from Singapore in numbers

Cambridge recorded 575 applications and 155 offers in the 2025 cycle from applicants whose area of permanent residence was Singapore. These are Cambridge figures for a single admissions cycle and are based on area of permanent residence.

Oxford recorded 1,821 applications and 252 students admitted across the 2023 to 2025 admissions cycles combined from applicants domiciled in Singapore. Oxford reports these figures across three admissions cycles, so they should not be compared directly with Cambridge's single-cycle offer figures.

For families, the useful point is not to turn these figures into a rate. The universities publish different measures over different periods. They are best read as context for the scale of applications from Singapore, while course choice, academic preparation and the rest of the application still need to be considered individually.

The H2 A-level route to Oxford and Cambridge

For Singapore-Cambridge A-level students, this is the main qualification route to understand first. SEAB describes subjects as being examined at H1, H2 and, for school candidates, H3. Oxford and Cambridge then publish their own expectations for Singapore-Cambridge A-level applicants.

Oxford asks for three H2 subjects at AAA for all courses, including any subjects required by the course. This means subject choice matters as well as grades: students should check that their H2 combination covers any course-specific required subjects.

Cambridge's typical minimum offer is AAAA at H2, or AAA at H2 plus at least a Merit at H3. The alternative involving H3 is therefore part of Cambridge's published Singapore-Cambridge A-level guidance, rather than a general requirement that every applicant must take H3.

Our guide to H2 A-levels for Oxford and Cambridge goes further into how these requirements fit into application planning. For students deciding subjects or thinking about where an H3 may sit in their preparation, start from the university's published requirement for the course rather than assuming the two universities use the same offer structure.

If you are taking the IB

Cambridge states a minimum IB offer of 41-42 points out of 45, with 776 at Higher Level. It also notes that some colleges may ask for 777 at Higher Level or a higher points total.

Oxford's IB requirement is 38, 39 or 40 points depending on the course, including core points, with 6s and 7s in Higher Level subjects. Students should therefore read the requirement for their chosen Oxford course rather than treating one IB total as universal across the university.

National Service and applying after February results

For male Singapore citizens and permanent residents, National Service is a central part of university timing. CMPB states that they are liable for NS and are enlisted at the earliest opportunity upon turning 18. Full-time National Service as an NSF lasts two years, and deferment is not granted for university studies.

The practical approach is therefore to plan the university start date around NS rather than expect NS to be postponed for university. Cambridge explicitly recognises the Singapore requirement and says male Singapore citizens and permanent residents may apply for a place deferred for two years.

Cambridge gives a concrete example: an applicant who applies in October 2026 would defer starting the course until October 2029. This is useful when families are mapping school completion, NS and the intended university start together.

Results timing also needs to be planned carefully. MOE lists the 2026 GCE A-level results as tentatively due between 19 and 23 February 2027. Oxford's application deadline is 6pm UK time on 15 October, while Cambridge's UCAS application deadline is 15 October 2026. In other words, the application timetable can come before final Singapore A-level results are released.

Our National Service guide goes further into planning an Oxford or Cambridge application around NS. Families should keep the university application and the NS timeline as two connected planning tracks, particularly when considering deferred entry.

How Oxbridge Mentors can help

We provide individual online tutoring and mentoring for Oxford and Cambridge applications. Support can cover admissions tests, interview preparation and academic subjects, with the work shaped around the student's course, current preparation and priorities.

Every tutor is an Oxford or Cambridge graduate. Families start with a free consultation with our admin team, who discuss what the student needs and then match the family with a suitable tutor. A trial lesson is available before deciding how to continue.

For students in Singapore, online support also makes it straightforward to work around school commitments and other preparation. The aim is to make each session specific: identify the next problem to solve, work through it carefully, and leave the student with a clear focus for independent practice.

ESAT and TMUA question banks

Our ESAT and TMUA question banks start from £69. They are purchased in pounds and open straight away, so students can begin using them as soon as access is completed. The full contents and purchase details are set out on the individual bank pages.

A question bank works best as part of deliberate practice rather than as a substitute for reviewing mistakes. Use timed work when appropriate, then return to weak topics and methods so that practice changes what you do on the next set.

How to start

Book a free consultation with our admin team to explain the student's course interests, qualification route and current stage of preparation. The booking calendar shows available times in your own Singapore time, so there is no need to convert the schedule yourself.

WhatsApp and email are also available through the page controls. Once the admin team understands what support is needed, they can match the family with an Oxford or Cambridge graduate tutor for the relevant area.

Do Singapore A-level results come before the Oxford and Cambridge application deadline?

For the 2026 GCE A-level cohort, MOE lists results as tentatively due between 19 and 23 February 2027. Oxford's deadline is 6pm UK time on 15 October, and Cambridge's UCAS application deadline is 15 October 2026, so the final results follow those application deadlines.
