Why UK Chemistry Olympiad coaching is hard to find
The UK Chemistry Olympiad sits above the syllabus, so most tutors cannot teach it
A tutor who has only taught Chemistry to A-Level has not met these problems. Competition papers are not harder versions of the syllabus, they are a different kind of work, and coaching them means having sat them. That is why most agencies quietly decline this, and why students who want to prepare seriously are usually left with a past-paper archive and no one to mark it.

What is the UK Chemistry Olympiad?
The UK Chemistry Olympiad is the Royal Society of Chemistry's premier competition for sixth-formers. Its written first round stretches A-Level chemistry into demanding, context-rich problems, and top performers progress towards selection for the UK team at the International Chemistry Olympiad. It is well recognised by admissions tutors for chemistry, natural sciences, and medicine.
The UK Chemistry Olympiad is run by the Royal Society of Chemistry and sat by sixth-formers, mainly in Year 13. Round 1 is a written paper of long, applied problems that take A-Level chemistry into unfamiliar territory: real research contexts, extended calculations, and mechanisms that go beyond the specification.
The strongest students are invited to Round 2, a residential round, and then through selection towards the UK team at the International Chemistry Olympiad. Even Round 1 alone is a serious challenge and a clear demonstration of chemical understanding.
For applicants to Chemistry, Natural Sciences, Biochemistry, or Medicine, a strong Olympiad performance is a well-recognised way to show depth beyond the A-Level syllabus and a genuine appetite for the subject.
