What We Help With
What Oxbridge Tutoring Covers
Most families start with one need and add others as the application takes shape. Each area below has its own page with more detail.
Strategy
Admissions Strategy and Course Choice
A clear plan comes first: which course, which university, which tests, and what to do in which month. Our tutors applied to Oxford or Cambridge themselves, so they can explain how the process works from the inside.
- Comparing courses and colleges, and choosing the ones that suit the student’s subject and grades
- Mapping the application year, from admissions test registration to the UCAS deadline and interviews
- Choosing reading and projects that show real interest in the subject
Admissions tests
ESAT, TMUA, TARA, LNAT and UCAT
Many courses at Oxford, Cambridge and other top universities ask for an admissions test. Tutoring covers the content, the question styles and timed practice.
- Teaching the content a test expects, then the question types that cause the most difficulty
- Timed practice papers, with honest feedback on how to improve
- Advice on which test a course needs and when to register
Personal statements
Personal Statements and a Written Review
A personal statement has to sound like the student and show real interest in the subject. Tutors help students plan, draft and sharpen their own statement.
- Finding what to say about the subject, and what to leave out
- Structure, evidence and tone, taught as skills the student can use again
- A written review of a draft from a tutor for the student’s subject, bought on its own review page
Statements are always the student’s own work. We teach and give feedback. We never write or edit submitted work.
Interviews
Interviews and Mock Interviews
Interviews at Oxford and Cambridge are conversations about the subject, and they reward clear thinking more than memorised answers. Practice with an Oxford or Cambridge graduate makes the format familiar.
- Mock interviews with a tutor who knows the subject, in the style of the course the student is applying for
- Feedback after each mock on how the student reasons and explains
- Practice thinking aloud on problems the student has not seen before
Subject tutoring
Subject Tutoring: A-level, IB, AP and GCSE
Strong grades matter for any application, so many students pair admissions work with regular teaching in their school subjects. Lessons follow the student’s course and exam board, with extra challenge for those aiming at Oxford and Cambridge.
- Weekly one-to-one lessons planned around the student’s school course
- Help with the topics a student finds hard, and challenge beyond the syllabus on the topics they find easy
- Exam technique and timed practice before mocks and final exams
Who Teaches
Tutors Who Have Been Through It
Our tutors are Oxford and Cambridge graduates. They applied to and studied at Oxford or Cambridge, so they know what strong work looks like and how to build it.
We match each student with a tutor for their subject and, for admissions work, their target course. You can read tutor profiles on our tutors page.
How It Works
From First Call to Regular Lessons
- 1
A free 15-minute consultation
A short call with our admin team, where you put your key questions and hear how we work. It is a conversation about your questions, not a tutoring session.
- 2
A matched tutor
We match the student with a tutor for their subject and goals.
- 3
A trial lesson
The student starts with a trial lesson at a discounted price, to check the fit with the tutor.
- 4
A package of hours
Families buy a package of hours. Each lesson uses some of the hours, so lessons run at the pace that suits the family: weekly, or more often before a test or an interview.
- 5
Lesson notes in the portal
Your tutor keeps lesson notes in the student portal, so you can see what has been covered and what comes next.
International Families
Families in Japan, Singapore and China
Lessons are one-to-one and online, so a student can learn with a UK tutor from anywhere. Lesson times are planned around your time zone and the UK application calendar.
Families applying from abroad often have extra questions, such as how school qualifications are viewed by UK universities and when each step falls. Bring them to the free consultation.
Questions
Questions Families Ask
Who will teach my child?
Oxford and Cambridge graduates. After the consultation we match your child with a tutor for their subject and, for admissions work, their target course.
Is this only for students applying to Oxford or Cambridge?
No. Oxford and Cambridge are our specialism, and many students come to us for them. We also teach A-level, IB, AP and GCSE subjects, and we support applications to other top UK universities such as Imperial and UCL.
What happens in the free consultation?
It is a 15-minute call with our admin team. Bring your key questions: what your child needs, how lessons work and what the next step could be. It is a conversation, not a tutoring session.
What is the trial lesson?
A first lesson with the tutor we suggest, at a discounted price, so your child can see whether the fit is right before you buy a package of hours.
Are lessons online, and can they be recorded?
Lessons are one-to-one and online, so they work from anywhere. Lessons can be recorded, as an opt-in.
What does it cost?
Prices are quoted after the free consultation, once we know which subjects and how much support you would like.
Do you write personal statements or coursework?
No. We teach and give feedback. We never write or edit submitted work. Statements, essays and coursework stay the student’s own.
Can you promise a place at Oxford or Cambridge?
No. The universities make those decisions, and no tutor can promise an offer. What we can do is help your child prepare well, with someone who has been through the process.
